2 Expected To Survive Wrong-Way Crash On Rt.9: Wellesley Police
The Wellesley Police Department is investigating a crash early Friday where a car was headed the wrong way down Rt. 9.

WELLESLEY, MA — In the wee hours Friday morning Wellesley Fire fighters and first responders had to use the jaws of life to rescue one of the drivers involved in a head on collision on Route 9 that happened when a car was traveling the wrong way on Route 9, near Upwey Road.
Two people were taken to the hospital and both are expected to survive, according to police.
The Wellesley Police Department is investigating the crash but did not say if they suspected alcohol as a possible reason for the crash.
At five minutes past midnight, multiple people called 911 to report a driver was headed the wrong way on Route 9 and then they called reporting a traffic crash on Route 9 eastbound near Upwey Road.

A Wellesley Police Officer on a paid detail at Rt. 9 near Kingsbury Street responded to the scene first and began to help along with a Norfolk County Deputy Sheriff.
Officers found two cars with significant damage on Route 9. One of the drivers was trapped in his car due to the amount of damage. The second driver was able to get out of the car. The Wellesley Fire Department utilized the jaw of life to extricate the trapped driver, police said. Once removed, the driver was transported to the Beth Israel (BI) in Boston by ambulance. The second driver was also transported to the BI as well. The injuries to both drivers do not appear to be life threatening at this time, police said in a statement.
Route 9 eastbound was closed for some time due to the severity of the crash, police said. The temperature at the time of the crash was approximately 16 degrees. A full investigation of the crash is underway by Sergeant Mike Lemenager and Officer Mark D’Innocenzo, Wellesley Police said.
