300 Newton-Wellesley Employees Take Voluntary Retirement Offer

The hospital offered voluntary retirement opportunities to 550 employees who were eligible, about 300 took the offer.

WELLESLEY, MA — A wave of Newton-Wellesley employees are retiring together after getting an offer they couldn't refuse. The hospital offered voluntary retirement opportunities to 550 eligible employees and about 300 chose to take it, according to the Wellesley Townsman.

The offers were sent out in May and the first wave of employees, about 140, left at the end of September — the second wave will be retiring by July. The Townsman reported that Newton-Wellesley's director of communications said the offers were sent as a means to "honor employees considering retirement," and manage expenses. The bulk of the employees who took the offer were nursing staff.

The hospital assured the outlet the program won't impact clinical services.
