Get ready to see still life and flowers in a whole new light!

Picture-maker Polina Plotnikova takes a classic, traditional subject and turns it on its head as she explores unconventional techniques that bring illusion, reflection, shadow, and movement into the frame.

Expect plenty of image-based case studies breaking down exactly how each technique works, alongside behind-the-scenes photos and videos so you can see the setups in action. If you love the idea of creating something surprising and painterly straight out of the camera, this one’s for you.

Polina is a full-time photographer and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society with many national and international awards. Her favorite photographic subjects are flower portraiture and still life.

Be sure to check us out at Gateway Camera Club.

The Wellesley Society of Artists in partnership with the Wellesley Free Library is proud to announce a painting demonstration with artist Don Demers, "The Breaking Sea” on November 8th at 1:30pm. The demo will include the presentation of a small sketch from which he will work into a 16”x 24” oil painting. The scene will portray waves breaking on a shoreline. Don will narrate throughout and explain that he typically does not work from photographs, but from sketches and studies he does on location. This is a unique opportunity to see Don Demers at work. He is a master at painting the elusive nature of the ocean.
Donald Demers is considered to be one of the finest marine and landscape painters in America. The exemplary level of Don’s paintings has placed them in some of the most prestigious public and private collections in the country. Don Demers is a highly sought after instructor and his teaching has taken him around the United States and Europe. His work as an illustrator has been honored four times in the annual exhibition of the Society of Illustrators. Don’s marine paintings have garnered him a record 21 awards at the Mystic International Marine Exhibition including the prestigious Rudolph J. Schaefer Award. He has received awards for his landscape painting from the Joan Irving Museum in Irvine, California, the Laguna Plein Air Invitational and from The Guild of Boston Artists. Don is a Fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists, an elected member of the Guild of Boston Artists, a Signature member of the Plein Air Painters of America, an elected member of the Salmagundi Club and an elected member of the California Art Club.

In this session, L. Callid Keefe-Perry (director of vocational discernment and ministerial readiness at Brite Divinity School) dismantles that myth and explores "dynamic equilibrium," learning how the shifting moral and spiritual landscape of ministry requires constant, responsive adaptation rather than rigid boundaries. Come explore the idea of a "Moral Orienting System" to map ministers’ current realities, identifying which practices and commitments need adjusting to stay faithful, grounded, and renewed in their vocations.
