Check Out This Century-Old Advice on Ghost Etiquette

This Halloween, Wellesley College Magazine shared some spooky tips unearthed from a 1912 edition of Wellesley News.

WELLESLEY, MA – Ghosts are a staple of Halloween lore, haunting, mischievous, sometimes friendly specters whose mere presence sends chills up the spine of anyone just passing through an abandoned asylum.

But, as it turns out, 100 years ago we as a people were relatively ill-equipped to interact with our transparent friends. Enter Wellesley News.

In a 1912 edition of the Wellesley College publication, writer Agnes Rockwell argued that ghosts shouldn't necessarily be met with fear and disdain but rather a healthy dose of understanding. After all, they were people once, too.
