Coronavirus: Wellesley Students Take On Tutoring Project

WELLESLEY, MA — A pair of sisters from Wellesley decided to make the most of their time at home due to coronavirus social distancing measures and are trying to help their fellow students and health care workers. Sanah and Sanya Goenka started two projects called Help Educate and Help Thank our Health Care Heroes.

Sanah is a sixth grader at Wellesley Middle School and Sanya is a sophomore at Buckingham Browne & Nichols Upper School.

The Help Educate program offers free, virtual tutoring to any middle or elementary student that needs help with their school work. The girls have already recruited 25 high school volunteers to tutor students who sign up. Anyone looking for tutoring or to sign up as a volunteer can email sanyasanahgoenka@gmail.com.

The Help Our Health Care Heroes program is an effort to donate meals to hospital staff at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Medical Center and other local hospitals. So far, the girls raised over $2800 to provide meals and contacted several local restaurants who are willing to provide a delicious meal for the health care workers at the above hospitals for $10.

“Our medical workers are working tirelessly and putting their lives at risk while taking care of patients infected by Covid-19,” said Reshma Goenka, the girls' mother.
