CreateAthon 2018

This year's CreateAthon, a Wellesley Education Foundation event, will be held on March 24, 2018 at the Wellesley High School from 10am to 4pm at Wellesley High School. At the CreateAthon, high school and middle school students who live or go to school in Wellesley, will work in teams to create an app from scratch. These apps will target specific community problems such as environmental, education or health issues presented in problem statements by community members such as Wellesley superintendent David Lussier, leaders from Sustainable Wellesley and local business owners.

The inaugural 2017 Wellesley CreateAthon, a Wellesley Education Foundation event, brought together 67 middle-schoolers and high-schoolers from Wellesley for an exciting day of project-based learning at Wellesley High School. Students worked in teams to design and build apps to solve real problems in Wellesley. The CreateAthon was the brainchild of WHS Computer Science students, including Ethan Chiu and Eleanor Boyd, with support and mentorship from WHS Math and Computer Science teacher Dr. Robert Cohen.

What is a CreateAthon?
A creatathon is best described as an event where you can learn how to build an app from scratch. You don't need any programming experience beforehand!
What should I bring?
If you can, you should bring a laptop with a charger. Everything else will be provided (food, utensils, wifi, etc.)
How many team members can I have?
Up to four members.
How are teams formed?
Teams will be formed based on the answers from the registration list. If you want to team up with someone that you know, please list that out in the application.
What if I don't have an idea for what app to design at the CreateAthon?
Don't worry! During the workshop portion of the event, you will brainstorm with your team on how to address one of the problem statements outlined in the opening ceremony.
