Donations Pour In For Wellesley Elementary Schooler Hit By Car

The GoFundMe campaign has raised close to three times its goal in as many days.

WELLESLEY, MA – Neighbors, friends and family banded together to smash through the fundraising goal for a Wellesley elementary schooler hit by a car last week. Dominic Staunton was hospitalized after he was struck in the driveway of Schofield Elementary School Thursday afternoon.

In the days following the accident, a GoFundMe was established to help support the Staunton family. And the donations poured in.

In just three days, the campaign has raised over $27,000, well above the goal of $10,000.

In an update Monday, Dominic's parents said the family has moved past the immediate crisis stage and is now focused on injury management.

"His nurses and doctors have all commented on how feisty he is – his true colors are showing!" the family wrote. Dominic has had moments of wakefulness and once he is fully awake, there will be a number of challenges related to therapy and transition, his parents said. You can follow his progress here.

"It's really overwhelming to think about the collective response we have received from our community," Dominic's parents wrote. "At some point, we will have time to let sink in what an incredible amount of support we are receiving from you, and to thank you properly."
