Driver Who Crashed Into Wellesley Variety Store Charged With OUI

The driver was slurring his speech and could not stay steady on his feet, according to police.

WELLESLEY, MA — The driver who last week, crashed their Jeep into Wellesley Variety was summoned after police said he was driving under the influence of drugs.

On Jan. 17, police were called to the variety store after the Jeep struck the storefront and damaged the window. The driver, who police have yet to identify, was slurring his speech and could not stay steady on his feet, according to police. Police said the man seemed confused and told officers he was trying to get to a business in Cohasset.

According to police, there were bottles filled with prescription medicines in the car. The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

The building inspector closed the store until repairs could be made.

The driver will be summonsed to Dedham District Court on the following charges:
