A.R.F. Webber—A Caribbean Visionary: World Premiere Film Screening

Based on Wellesley faculty member Selwyn Cudjoe’s Caribbean Visionary: A.R.F. Webber and the Making of the Guyanese Nation (2009, University of Mississippi Press), this film traces the life of a major intellectual who struggled for justice against colonialism. Albert Raymond Forbes Webber (1880-1932) was a distinguished Caribbean scholar, statesman, legislator, and novelist. His life is a lens for viewing the Guyanese struggle for justice and equality in an age of colonialism, imperialism, and indentureship. Documentary filmmaker Talaya Grimes, scholar Paul Tennessee, Webber’s granddaughter, Jennifer Welshman, and Selwyn Cudjoe will hold a public conversation following the screening.
