Ibrahim El Batout’s films capture the stories of loss, suffering, and displacement. His fiction film Ein Shams was awarded the top prize at the Taormina Film Festival (Italy) in 2008. Set in ein shams, one of Cairo’s poorest neighborhoods, the film provides a glimpse into the beautiful and sad complexities of everyday life in Egypt.
