Join us for a look at a most unparalleled life, when Leslie Brody tells us all about her newest book, Irrepressible: The Life and Times of Jessica Mitford, which is the definitive biography of Jessica Mitford, dubbed “the communist” of the Mitford clan.
Born into one of Britain’s most famous aristocratic families in 1917, Jessica Mitford severed ties with her life of privilege as a teen and eventually moved to the United States, where she led a life defined by activism and service. From her work in the civil rights movement to her muckraking journalism, Jessica Mitford was not only defined by the history she witnessed, but by bearing witness, helped to define that history.
Leslie Brody has won the PEN Center USA West prize and a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and several awards for her playwriting. She is the author of the memoir Red Star Sister and is a professor at the University of Redlands. She lives in Redlands, California.
