The Green Wellesley Campaign of the Natural Resources Commission has partnered with the Wellesley Free Library’s Wellesley Reads Together program to bring you an exciting event. On Tuesday, November 1st, NRC Commissioner Ursula King will lead a workshop on how to start a backyard food garden. The workshop is inspired by Barbara Kingsolver’s non-fiction book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, which chronicles a year of the Kingsolver family producing their own food, and is Wellesley Reads Together’s current book selection.
Ursula King and special guests will discuss all of the wonderful aspects of growing one’s own food. Attendants will learn how to improve their family's health, teach their children about nature, save money on groceries, reduce their environmental impact, and enjoy better-tasting, more nutritious~food.~~Wellesley’s community gardens may have long waiting lists, but anyone can start their own backyard food garden with a few square feet, a water source, and a little time!~The event takes place in the Wakelin Room at the Library’s main branch at 530 Washington Street (Rt. 16) and runs from 7:00 pm to 8:30pm.
