The Haunted Tower, Wellesley College

The Wellesley College Guild of Carillonneurs hosts its annual Halloween Haunted Tower on Sunday October 30, 4-6 PM. This family friendly event is free and open to the public.

Brave trick-or-treaters are invited to climb the Galen Stone Tower, encountering skeletons, spiders, ghosts and cobwebs along the way.

Student carillonneurs, dressed for Halloween, will hand out treats and play spooky Halloween tunes, including "Hedwig's Theme" from Harry Potter, "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana and the Pan's Labyrinth Lullaby.

The carillon is the largest instrument in the world and possibly the least recognized -- there are fewer than 200 in North America.

The Guild of Carillonneurs plays two to three concerts per week and performs for events such as commencement and baccalaureate ceremonies. The massive bells evoke the pomp and circumstance of an ancient tradition, but student carillonneurs often feature oddball tunes and personal favorites to keep the tradition current.

Haunted Tower visitors should enter Green Hall from the academic quad and follow the signs to the tower. Parking is free, and directions are available on the College's Web site.
