Flat Tire Stop In Wellesley Leads To OUI arrest

An officer on patrol noticed sparks coming from the tire rim as the car drove past.

WELLESLEY, MA — Wellesley police arrested a West Roxbury man on Friday and charged him with drunken driving after an officer spotted his tire rim sparking along the road while he drove.

On Friday night, an officer on patrol on Worcester Street noticed the sparks. According to the police report, the car was driving very slowly and couldn't stay in its lane, swerving almost into the guardrail.

When the officer pulled the car over, the driver, Patrick Byrne, appeared to be drunk. According to the report, Byrne spoke "thick tongued" and had glassy, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. According to the report, the officer told Byrne he was missing a tire and he replied he noticed the air pressure light came on.

Byrne could not perform a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested and charged with OUI. He was later released on personal recognizance.
