Fornasetti Focused

reversecommuter has a little bit of a ceramic crush...

on Fornassetti pieces from Italy!

Originally created by Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) in Milan, the Fornasetti house is best known for it's ceramics, specifically the plates.  Piero's son, Barnaba has taken over the family business (great news for us) and continues the strict control of the images and creative process.

The plates and some of the furniture pieces created by Fornasetti have the face - and variations of the face - of Italian opera soprano Lina Cavalieri, after Piero randomly found her picture in a magazine.

The paper patterns drawn by Piero are still used in creating the hand crafted items in the Milano atelier, and the distribution is an intensely guarded process. When you contact the Fornasetti shop in Milan, they will guide you through the purchasing process and how to avoid fakes which litter the resale market.  Deal with a reputable source to maintain the value and authenticity - designer products don't deserve fake support!

The products available today maintain the strict creative process originated by Piero while living in Milan - in fact, you can visit the house and intimately walk amongst the books, drawings and music that inspired the creations via the Fornasetti website - reversecommuter's fave pic is that of Piero drawing outside, inside a bathtub!

reversecommuter wants to amass a wall's worth!  And even though the Fornasetti images are created on wallpaper (gorgeousness!!!!!!), I am holding out for the actual ceramic plates!
