Foundation for MetroWest to celebrate youth and philanthropy at 2017 Spring Inspiration Breakfast
Dr. Richard Weissbourd, Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, to Speak at Spring Inspiration Breakfast on May 4

The Foundation for MetroWest, a resource, leader and catalyst for philanthropy, will hold its 2017 Spring Inspiration Breakfast at the Wellesley Country Club on May 4 at 9 a.m. The event will celebrate the benefits and explore the challenges of fostering philanthropic literacy among youth.
The Foundation has worked with local students for 20 years through its Youth in Philanthropy program (YIP). Through a unique real-world approach, YIP equips students to become leaders, develop philanthropic acumen and understand the needs that exist in their backyard. Since inception, over 1,100 students have participated in awarding $1 million to local youth-serving nonprofits, making the YIP program at the Foundation for MetroWest one of the largest in the country.
“The Youth in Philanthropy program is a community gem that the Foundation offers,” said Susan Elliott, Event Committee Co-chair, whose daughter Kathryn participated in the YIP program. “While the Foundation offers traditional grant support to the more than 600 nonprofits throughout MetroWest, the YIP program is truly unique and an important experience for our youth.”

The Spring Inspiration Breakfast will feature author, academic and parenting expert Dr. Richard Weissbourd as its keynote speaker. Weissbourd’s work dovetails with the theme of this year’s event, as his studies focus on moral development, vulnerability and resilience in childhood. He also co-directs the Making Caring Common Project, a national effort to prioritize moral and social development in child-raising while providing strategies to schools and parents for promoting caring, a commitment to justice, and other key moral and social capacities in children.
