Fundraiser Launched for Beloved Wellesley Custodian Battling Lymphoma

Contributions have been pouring in for Mauricio, a custodian at the Wellesley College library who was recently diagnosed with lymphoma.

WELLESLEY, MA – Two students at Wellesley College have started a GoFundMe campaign for a beloved custodian recently diagnosed with lymphoma.

The students, Courtney Peterson and Nikki Sharkin, met Mauricio their freshman year when he helped them find a quiet study spot in the library.

"Since then, he has not just become a friend of ours, but a friend to many in the Wellesley Community," Peterson and Sharkin wrote. "He has shown his support for many of Wellesley's athletic teams by attending games and is always the first to lend a hand during the stressful times at school."

The fund, which has already raised $4,193 of its $6,000 goal in less than a week, will help offset some of Mauricio's medical and living costs while he undergoes surgery and radiation treatments.

The students want the fund to be a surprise, so they ask anyone who knows Mauricio to not mention it to him for now.
