Gil Stubbs: Magic Workshop For Seniors
by: Rama K Ramaswamy
Wellesley’s Council on Aging presents Gil Stubbs, experienced magician and host of Wellesley Media Corporation’s “Gil Stubbs’ World of Magic”, four- week course in magic for seniors. At every workshop, presentation and TV special Stubbs tailors learning magic, with a multiplicity of everyday items, such as napkins and rubber bands, to the needs and capabilities of his audience-seniors. Furthermore, Stubbs’ magic requires little to no manual dexterity. Each participant will be provided with over 100 pages of notes that describe each trick in detail and contain recommendations for further studies. The course will be taught at the Wellesley Community Center, 219 Washington St., Wellesley from 1 to 2:30 P.M. on the first four Thursdays of October (Oct. 1, 8, 15 and 22), with a makeup date of October 29. The tuition of $30 must be paid before the first day of the class. Registration for this course will begin on September 1 for Wellesley residents and on September 2 for non-residents. Students may register by calling 781-235-3961.”
According to Rich Methia, Chairman, LinkAmericas Foundation, one of Stubbs’ 2014 workshop participants, “Gil teaches that magic is a gift available to all ages. His magic generates wonder in children and delight in the elderly. Though Gil is a talented magician, his workshop emphasizes tricks and illusions that can be replicated by any newcomer to magic. The workshop offered me insights into the nature of illusion, a topic I have always found intellectually fascinating. Further, Gil is a wonderful storyteller as he has a lifetime of experiences to share. He’s a delightful person and an expert showman. If I can fit it into my schedule, I will be taking Gil’s workshop again”.

Another former workshop participant said, “I am writing to encourage you to continue to offer Gil’s magic course to the senior community. I took the course several years ago and it stimulated my interest in magic, which continues to this day. I live in Acton and was willing to drive to Wellesley specifically for Gil’s class. Magic is terrific for Seniors. It provides a means for them to be both mentally and physically active. It also provides a vehicle for them to interact with people in a positive manner.”
These are but a few of the outstanding reviews Stubbs has received over the years. Stubbs is often described as “a force of nature… and magic”. You don’t want to miss this opportunity. Deadline for registration is September 29, 2015.
