Historian to lecture on the Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858

Stonehill College professor Gary Hylander is visiting Waterstone at Wellesley on Sunday, June 14 at 2:30 p.m. Hylander will discuss the Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858, political debates between challenger Abraham Lincoln and incumbent Stephen A. Douglas for one of Illinois’ two Senate seats. Though Lincoln did not win the election, the debates were a turning point for his political career. Hylander, a popular historian, routinely visits Waterstone to lead fascinating lectures on significant moments in national and world history. This event is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is requested at 781-235-1614. Waterstone is located at 27 Washington St., and includes 134 apartments for seniors 62 and older. It features independent and assisted living rental apartments.
