Wellesley Driver Arrested After Friday Hit-and-Run

The reported incident occurred at Hampshire and Bristol Roads.

WELLESLEY, MA - Police have arrested a 21-year-old Wellesley man in connection with the hit-and-run of a cyclist Friday night.

Officers responded to the area of Hampshire Road near Bristol Road around 6:15 p.m. Friday for the report of a cyclist who had been struck by a car, which left the scene. Witnesses told police the car was a gray Toyota pickup.

According to police, the cyclist was a 47-year-old Framingham man. The man was unconscious and unresponsive at the scene but suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess for evaluation.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Connor Campanelli, 21, of Wellesley, police said. A witness traveling in front of Campanelli notified police of the crash. The witness told police Campanelli was traveling south on Hampshire road when he struck the cyclist who was traveling north.

Campanelli turned himself in to police on Friday. He was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, operating under the influence of liquor and causing a serious injury accident, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and speeding and failure to keep right for oncoming traffic.

He was released on $3,000 bail and given a court date of March 14.

Investigators from the Wellesley Police Department and Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office are investigating the crash.
