JFS of Metrowest Hosts "Build-a-Backpack" Program in Wellesley

Volunteers gather to pack over 200 backpacks for children in the community

Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Metrowest hosted the fourth annual Build-a-Backpack event at the Wellesley Public Library on Monday. As part of JFS’s Reducing Achievement Gaps initiative, the event serves to address the academic and social needs of low-income children of immigrant families in Framingham. JFS asks volunteers to bring new backpacks to the event where they stuff them full of school supplies for elementary school children at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Framingham as well as the parent information center for the Framingham Public Schools.

“We are thrilled with the turnout at this year’s event, which garnered over 200 backpacks full of supplies” said Lucia Panichella, JFS Director of Immigrant & Youth Services. “Build-a-Backpack is a wonderful event that brings families together and gives kids the chance to learn how they can help support their community.”

JFS sincerely thanks each of the volunteers, donors, and corporate sponsors including Horizon Technology, Kronos, Inc., On Process Technology, Framingham Public Library, Staples, Whole Foods, and BJ’s, for continuous support and dedication to the organization.
