KC Kato was elected chair of the Wellesley School Committee last night, accepting the position from Ilyssa Povich, who was praised by her colleagues for her "grace and poise."
Kato, a former town meeting member was elected to the board in March of 2009, after years of volunteering on behalf of the schools as a PTO president and co-president of the Wellesley Education Foundation.
Steve Burtt was elected vice-chair and Povich will serve as secretary for the next fiscal year.
