Latin Jazz Jam and Dance with Rebeca Mauleon

Friday, October 2, 2015 - 7:30pm, Wellesley College

Enjoy an evening of making music with Rebeca Mauléon, our Artist of Residence! All are welcome: Bring your instrument and your dancing shoes, refreshments provided! Reservations are available but not required.

An internationally acclaimed musician, bandleader, composer, Grammy-nominated producer and educator, Rebeca Mauléon exhibits impressive expertise in Afro-Caribbean and Latin American music, placing her at the forefront of the musicological community. Mauléon has become one of the most multi-faceted artists on the world music scene, recording and performing with a number of Grammy-winning legends, producing diverse compositional projects, and publishing a number of successful books and articles. She is the author of the critically acclaimed Salsa Guidebook and 101 Montunos, and serves as musicological consultant and author to National Geographic and Time Life, among other significant institutions.

In this residency, Mauléon will work with the jazz program and with Wellesley’s Afro-Caribbean ensemble Yanvalou, offering in-class visits, ensemble rehearsals, clinics, and master classes with Wellesley students. Also included are the following public events: a workshop, a Midday Muse, and a full concert with the Afro Kuban Quartet.
