LINX Camps' Science Staff "Rock Stars" Inspire Upham Elementary Students for the Upham Invention Convention to be held March 26th

LINX Camps’ Science Staff “Rock Stars” Inspire Upham Elementary Students for the Upham Invention Convention to be held March 26th

WELLESLEY, MA – March 25 – LINX Camps hosted a hands-on science fair at Upham Elementary School, 35 Wynnewood Road, Wellesley, on February 25th, to create excitement and inspire students as they prepare for their upcoming Invention Convention, to be held March 26, 2014 at Upham Elementary.

LINX Camps long-time and respected science staff favorites, Chris “Cornbread” Coimbra and Chris Dumais, engaged Upham students after school in the library with an interactive science show that included “Mega Toilet Paper Throwing Machines,” “Elephant’s Toothpaste,” “Rockets” and more.  The goal of the show was to inspire the imaginations of the young students as they prepare for their own Invention Convention in the Upham gym on March 26th.  Upham Science Fair Coordinator Susan Cracraft was very pleased with the effort stating, “LINX put on a fantastic show for our Brainstorming Session to inspire the students for our Invention Convention.  Many of the kids already knew Mr. Josh, Chris, and Cornbread from attending LINX camp in the summer so they were excited before the show even began.  I walked through the halls of Upham with Chris and Cornbread and it was like walking with 2 rockstars, the kids were calling their names and giving them high fives!  Even more amazing was that Chris and Cornbread knew the kids names too."  Josh Schiering, Vice President/Executive Director of LINX and LX Summer Camps, commends Coimbra and Dumais for inspiring the students in their passion for science.  “LINX Science Camps was so happy to see so many Upham students at the recent brainstorming session led by the LINX Science team. The kids were cheering while being challenged to think outside the box for their own science projects for their fair coming up in late March. I was proud of the science team as they took everyday projects and turned them into WOW moments for the students. LINX Science Camps always goes BIG! Each science fair participant is also receiving a LINX Camps Science Gift Certificate they can use towards camp this summer to build on their passion for science!" To add to the excitement of the March 26th event, Coimbra and Dumais will be on hand as “special guest scientists.”

LINX will donate a week of LINX Camp or 5 $100 gift certificates.  To further inspire students to participate in the Invention Convention, LINX has promised that each participant in the science show will receive a complimentary sample science class at LINX as a prize for entering.  In addition, each entrant at the Invention Convention on March 26th will be awarded a $50 LINX Camps gift certificate.  "Linx generously donated their time and materials to host our Brainstorming Session which was the kick off for our Invention Convention.  They did an amazing job of getting the kids fired up about science and we had the largest number of entries ever for this year's Invention Convention.  I can't thank them enough for their help!" said Cracraft.

LINX has always been an advocate of hands-on fun science learning, offering a LINX Science Camp every year.  Young campers in Kindergarten through 8th grade are led on a science adventure.  Projects vary from week to week as campers take hands on look at solar energy, hybrid technology, hydroelectric and wind power, and more.  A typical day at Science Camp includes three science intensives, a lunch period, a swim period (including Red Cross Certified swim instruction), and a bonus camp activity period.  The camp, located at LINX’s Dana Hall Campus in Wellesley, consists of weekly full day sessions (9am – 4pm), starting July 7th and ending on August 15th.  For more information on LINX Science Camp, visit www.linxcamps.com/SpecialtyCamps/Science or call 781-235-3210.
