LINX Camps Teams up with METCO, Inc. to Provide Free Summer Camp to Boston Children

LINX Camps of Wellesley Teams up with METCO, Inc. to Provide Free Summer Camp to Boston Children for summer 2017

Wellesley, MA – March 29, 2017 – LINX Camps of Wellesley has partnered with The Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity, Inc. (METCO, Inc.), to provide a free summer camp experience to 30 Boston children, who are not able to attain the LINX Camps experience due to transportation or financial limitations this summer. The benefit to Boston children comes close to $25,000.

METCO Inc. of Roxbury, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, is a private nonprofit organization providing students with educational opportunities that enrich academic and interpersonal experiences, and shares LINX’s desire to provide opportunity to kids from different backgrounds who want to learn together and from each other in an enriching, fun and inclusive traditional summer camp environment.

“I was really honored that LINX reached out to be inclusive. As a METCO coordinator for the Wellesley High School for 10 years, I knew of LINX but didn’t realize the camp programs would be a viable option for our students. When the scholarships for the students were offered, it was just a matter of how we would put all this together, and we had a great time over coffee just talking about how we could make this work. Parents call me all the time for camps and programs. They are looking to have their kids outdoors to have fun and destress after a long school year. This partnership will help keep kids engaged in a learning and safe environment!” said Deborah Ward, Student Services Manager at METCO, Inc. Summer 2017 marks the first year of the partnership with METCO, Inc.

“We are very proud of what we’ve created at LINX Camps in terms of emotional safety and character development through the teaching of traditional core values of kindness, respect, spirit, friendship, and inclusiveness. Our passion is to give more kids this kind of development along with the specialty and traditional camp opportunities in theater, dance, sports, and STEAM that our nearby communities already enjoy,” said Josh Schiering, Vice President of LINX Camps.

Additionally, LINX Camps hosted a recruiting fair at METCO Inc.’s headquarters to meet professional staff who have their summers free, alumni of the program, as well as rising graduates of the program. LINX made the decision to reach out to more communities to welcome and invite them to apply. “We are excited to bring in a diverse group of both campers and counselors as we continue to create the greatest camp experience for all of our camp families. We look forward to making 2017 our best summer ever,” said Joe Kahn, Owner and Founder of LINX. “This is going to be a unique partnership, which I think will benefit not only students, but adults and young people who have the opportunity to work at the camp,” Ward added.
