MassBay Donates Personal Protective Equipment

WELLESLEY, MA — MassBay Community College has donated personal protective equipment to medical facilities to help healthcare workers fight against the coronavirus. The equipment serves as a first line of defense for medical staff to stay safe while treating patients. With MassBay students studying remotely, the college does not presently need these in-demand items for academic purposes.

“MassBay recognizes the critical need for our healthcare professionals to have this equipment, and we are, of course, more than willing to donate any equipment that is urgently needed on the front lines,” said MassBay President Dr. David Podell. “This is a time when we all need to come together as a community and work cooperatively to fight this pandemic for the health and safety of everyone. We hope anyone with extra supplies they are not currently using will reach out to their local medical community and offer equipment.”

MassBay’s Health Sciences and STEM divisions have donated medical supplies and equipment to local medical facilities including dusk masks, face shields, gloves, plastic lenses, lab coats, alcohol pads, germicide/ Sani disinfecting wipes, non-rebreather masks, goggles, and disposable thermometers, all of which were scheduled to be used in lab and simulation classes this semester.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, all courses will be offered via remote learning starting on March 30 and will run until the end of the spring semester. With students not using these supplies in the health and science classrooms, these items would have gone unused.
