Memorial Day Ceremonies at Woodlawn [PHOTOS]
The West Suburban Veterans' District held a somber, midweek Memorial Day ceremony.
The West Suburban Veterans' District held its annual Memorial Day ceremony Wednesday at .
The ceremony, led by District Director Stanley Spear, honored Wellesley citizens who died in battle with a color guard, gun salute and the playing of taps.
Ken Johnson, physical education teacher, served as chaplain for the ceremonies. Johnson served in the United States Navy for four years.

“It’s an extremely important day to me,” he said in an interview following the ceremony.
For many, Memorial Day is about having a three–day weekend, but this year, there was an abundance of activity on social media outlets Facebook and Twitter reminding the public of the day’s significance.

“I think people really have lost what really the meaning is,” Johnson said. “It’s really up to the community to keep up and promote what Memorial Day really is about.”
