Missing iPhone, Cars On Sprague Field: Wellesley Police Log
Check out some of the calls that came into the Wellesley Police Department.
WELLESLEY, MA — Here's a sample of some types of calls the Wellesley Police Department respond to each day from the police logs, which are public. Arrests do not imply conviction and just because someone reports a crime does not mean it happened that way.
Monday, Nov. 4
10:00 a.m.: Officers conducting traffic enforcement on Worcester Street stopped a pick-up truck for a registration check. The information check showed there were three warrants for the driver's arrest issued by Brockton District Court for Uttering a False Check, Larceny by Check Over $1,200 and Forgery of a Check, Roxbury District Court for Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle and West Roxbury District Court for Uttering a False Check, Larceny by Check Over $1,200 and Forgery of a Check. The driver was taken into custody.

10:04 a.m.: A resident from Grove Street filed a report regarding computer fraud.

11:21 a.m.: A man called and reported a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings were stolen from his home in September. The man told police he had several contractors in his home in September. The earrings were valued at $1,300 and the man submitted a claim with his insurance company.
11:23 a.m.: An officer was sent to the area of Wellesley Country Club for a report of a man selling counterfeit clothing. The man who reported the incident told police he was approached by a man who said he was returning to Italy and he had items he wanted to sell to avoid having to pay a customs tax on them to bring them back to Italy with him. The man said he would sell him a leather jacket for half price $700. The reporting party told the man he only had $80 and he accepted that and left. The man realized the jacket was a counterfeit and contacted the police department. Officers checked the area and were unable to find the car.
Wednesday, Nov. 6
12:35 p.m.: A woman called police and told them she had been notified by her bank that a check was cashed against her account and was flagged as suspicious. The check was mailed at the Grove Street post office at the end of October. It was made out to a utility company and had been altered and cashed by someone in Jamaica Plain for $8,000. The incident is under investigation.
Friday, Nov. 8
9:21 a.m.: Police pulled a car over on Worcester Street for texting while driving, when the officer ran the driver's information he found there was an active default warrant issued by Taunton District Court. He was taken into custody.
1:42 p.m.: An officer was called to an apartment building on Hastings Street for a report of a suspicious man who had entered the apartment building. The woman who called told police when she entered the building a man entered after she did and engaged her in conversation. He said that his cousin lived in the building but he wasn’t sure which apartment. The man eventually left the building. The officer was unable to locate a man in the area.
11:42 p.m.: An officer was dispatched to a restaurant on Central Street for a report of two employees having a disagreement regarding gratuities.
Saturday, Nov. 9
7:53 a.m.: An employee with the Town of Wellesley Park and Tree Department reported vandalism to the Sprague playing fields. It looked like overnight someone drove a vehicle onto the fields damaging them.
11:57 a.m.: An officer pulled over a car after noticing the brake lights weren't working properly. After checking the driver's information the officer found he had his license suspended. The driver was taken into custody.
Sunday, Nov. 10
10:57 a.m.: While conducting traffic stops on Worcester Street, an officer noticed a driver did not have a valid registratoin sticker. When he asked for the drivers license, the driver said he didn't have his wallet. When he ran the driver's birthday and information, he found the driver had his license suspended.
10:00 p.m.: An officer spoke with a man and woman who stated their iPhone was stolen at a restaurant in Wellesley in the Lower Falls area after it was inadvertently left on the table when they left the restaurant. The reporting parties stated they returned to the restaurant approximately 5-10 minutes after they realized the phone was left behind and the employees stated that they did not find the phone. The incident is under investigation.
