Question of the Day: Should Wellesley Have a Split Tax Rate?

Wellesley has a single tax rate for all property owners. This means, both commercial and residential property owners pay the same tax rate across the board.
Lately though, there has been much talk of splitting that tax rate. At a recent meeting of the board of selectmen, dozens of members of Wellesley’s business community turned out to , saying it would cost them thousands of dollars more.
Tonight, there will be a presentation at the library about how a split – or dual – tax rate will affect the town. Some communities, like Newton, have a dual tax rate, but there is a far larger business presence there compared to Wellesley.
