Rebeca Mauleon's Afro Kuban Quartet Latin Jazz Residency Concert

On this evening, join the Afro Kuban Quartet in wrapping up the Rebeca Mauléon Latin Jazz Residency. Infused with contemporary jazz and an amalgam of musical textures, the Afro Kuban Quartet presents classic to contemporary Afro-Cuban and pan-Caribbean music along with original compositions by pianist and composer Rebeca Mauleón. Reservations are strongly suggested.

An internationally acclaimed musician, bandleader, composer, Grammy-nominated producer and educator, Rebeca Mauléon exhibits impressive expertise in Afro-Caribbean and Latin American music, placing her at the forefront of the musicological community. Mauléon has become one of the most multi-faceted artists on the world music scene, recording and performing with a number of Grammy-winning legends, producing diverse compositional projects, and publishing a number of successful books and articles. She is the author of the critically acclaimed Salsa Guidebook and 101 Montunos, and serves as musicological consultant and author to National Geographic and Time Life, among other significant institutions.

In this residency, Mauleón will work with the jazz program and with Wellesley’s Afro-Caribbean ensemble Yanvalou, offering in-class visits, ensemble rehearsals, clinics, and master classes with Wellesley students. Also included are the following public events: a workshop, Latin jazz jam, and a Midday Muse.
