Selectmen Approve $570 Tax Hike For Average Wellesley Homeowner

Most homeowners are looking at a property tax rate 3.7 percent higher next year.

WELLESLEY, MA — The Selectmen on Monday approved a property tax rate of $11.57 per $1,000 of assessed value. The tax rate is the same for both residential and commercial properties. The rate is down from last year's rate of $11.95 per $1,000 of assessed value. But most people will see an increase to their tax bill because of rising property values.

The average Wellesley homeowner's tax bill will go up by 3.7 percent, or a little over $570, because of the average residential property assessment of about $1.3 million compared to a little over $1.2 million last year. The average commercial property owner will also see their taxes go up by 2.8 percent, or a little over $2,000.
