Sex Offender, Tree Dispute And Road Rage Assault: Wellesley Police Logs

WELLESLEY, MA — The following are excerpts from the Wellesley police log for Sept. 4 to Sept. 10, 2017. All are presumed innocent unless found guilty in a court of law. Monday, Sept. 4, 2017

• Vandals: 7:44 p.m. Officer Wall was dispatched to a residence on Manor Ave for a report of vandalism to a light pole on their property. The homeowner indicated that at approximately 2:30 a.m. they heard some youths outside making noise and learned this morning that a sign that was displayed from the light pole was stolen and the brackets for the sign were bent. He indicated that the sign was located in 3 pieces on Weston Road and it was valued at $400. There are no suspects.

Tuesday, Sept. 5,

• Missing? 12:01 a.m. Sgt. Lemenager spoke with a family about a family member who was overdue. The family indicated that they all had dinner together in Newton and left to go home at 9:45 p.m. The female party did not return home and was not answering her phone. Officers from the Newton Police Department and Wellesley Police Department attempted to locate her in her car. After speaking with the family it was learned that there is another house she could have gone to in Belmont. The Belmont Police Department checked the house and located the family member.

• Sex offender: 5:27 p.m. Officer Cunningham observed a large yellow Mack dump truck on Cedar Street traveling in the truck exclusion. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator. A query of the operator’s information indicated that he was a level 2 sex offender who had not properly registered his place of employment which is in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He indicated he had sent he proper paperwork back to the Sex Offender Registration Board. He was advised he needed to appear at the Shrewsbury Police Department to properly register his place of employment. He will be summonsed to Dedham District Court for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender.

• Stolen wallet? 5:46 p.m. Officer Fritts was dispatched to the Wellesley Free Library for a report of a wallet being stolen from a patron’s purse while she was at the library. The wallet was later located.

• Hacked: 11:23 a.m. Officer Lindelof spoke with a party at the police station about an email account that was hacked into. The report was incomplete at this time and no further information is available.
• Road rage, assault, Arrest: 1:25 p.m. Officer DiCenso, detectives from the Wellesley Police Department and members of the Boston Police Department served an arrest warrant for Ms. Brittany Reid. The warrant was issued by the Dedham District Court for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, stemming from a road rage incident which occurred on August 30, 2017 in Wellesley. Ms. Reid was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and transported to Dedham District Court.

Wednesday, September 6

• Break in at a business: 1:33 a.m. Officer Amalfi was conducting security checks on businesses and observed an open door. Upon further investigation, a broken window was located. A detective responded and processed the scene. The incident is under investigation.
• Vandals: 11:48 a.m. Officer J. Popovski was dispatched to a residence on Wingate Road for a vandalism report. She spoke with a female party who stated that overnight on September 3, 4 exterior lights were vandalized. Another family member had heard some youths outside the evening the vandalism occurred. There are no suspects.
• Stolen? 6:07 p.m. Officer DiCenso was dispatched to a residence on Washington Street in the lower falls area for a report of a possible larceny. The report is incomplete at this time. No further information is available.

Friday, Sept. 8

• Tree dispute: 8:30 a.m. Officer R. Poirier was dispatched to a residence on Albion Road for a property line dispute. The reporting party indicated that his neighbor had hired a landscaping company to remove trees and they were in dispute over the property line. The landscaper indicated there was one tree that was too close to the property line to determine which property it belonged to and it would not be removed. The reporting party indicated that the trees being removed were on wetlands and could not be removed. Sgt. Gerrans responded and verified that the trees being removed were not on wetlands. All parties were advised it was a civil matter and the reporting party was advised to consult further with his attorney if he wished to contest the work being done.
• School theft: 5:42 p.m. Officer Keenan took a report of a larceny from a locker room at the Wellesley Middle School. The report is not complete at this time and no further information is available.
• Check Fraud Arrest Made: Detective Gallagher responded to a bank on Linden Street for a report of a man attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Detective Gallagher spoke with bank employees and verified that the check was indeed fraudulent, the man was still present in the bank, he was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later bailed.

Saturday, Sept. 9,

• Scammed 11:49 a.m. Officer Cunningham spoke with a man at the police station about a Craigslist scam. The male party advertised an item for sale. An unknown individual indicated he would like to purchase the item and sent a check for more than the selling price and asked the seller to wire $900 to an individual in Texas. The money was wired and the seller later learned the check was fraudulent. The incident is under investigation.
• Get off my land: 12 p.m. A man and a woman came to the police station to speak with Officer Rosenberg about a neighbor’s children who have repeatedly walked through their property to get to their own home. They indicated they have spoken with the children’s parents to request that the children not cut through their property to get to their own home and these requests to address the issue have not been successful. They indicated they were going to attempt to speak to them again, but wanted the ongoing issue documented in case the issue is not addressed and the children continue to trespass on their property.
• Airbnb college party Too loud: 11 p.m. Officer Knapp was dispatched to a noise complaint on Shaw Road. Officers who responded found that there was a large party occurring at a residence. The person throwing the party had rented the house for the evening through AirBnB. They were advised of the noise complaint and to keep the patrons inside the house and keep the noise down. They were advised if police had to return due to another noise complaint they would all be asked to leave. At 1:15 a.m. another noise complaint was received and officers responded. The renter was advised the party needed to be terminated. She complied and all of the guests left the area. (Read the Patch story here).

Sunday, September 10

• Drunk Driving, Arrested 10:10 p.m. Officer Griffin was on patrol on Washington Street near State Street when he observed a Nissan SUV when it turned left onto State Street in front of another vehicle that was travelling eastbound. Officer Griffin observed the vehicle cross over the double yellow lines as it turned and then it made a wide right turn onto Atwood Street. He stopped the vehicle and spoke with the operator, Mr. James Hamilton. Officer Griffin detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and that Mr. Hamilton’s eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. Mr. Hamilton took and failed four field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and later released on personal recognizance.
