Three Things To Do This Weekend In Wellesley

This weekend's a busy one for Wellesley, with a memorial ceremony to remember the events of and lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001 on Saturday and a fundraising walk to fight cancer Sunday.  

Attend the Sept. 11 Memorial ceremony: Wellesley will hold its ninth annual Sept. 11 memorial ceremony tomorrow, with a color guard, local representatives and members of the Wellesley Fire and Police Departments. Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Peterson remarked earlier this week that attendance at Sept. 11 ceremonies has been dropping in recent years. Help buck the trend tomorrow at Wellesley Fire Headquarters, 457 Worcester St., at 9:30 a.m. 

See off the Jimmy Fund Walkers: Babson College is one of the starting points for Sunday's Jimmy Fund Walk, and there are 33 walkers from Wellesley taking on the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon route, and variations thereof, Sunday, Sept. 12. 

Official starts are: Hopkinton, 26.2-miles, at the official Boston Marathon starting line, 5:30-7:30 a.m.; Babson College to Boston, 13.1-miles, 8:30-11 a.m.; Boston College, 5-miles, 9:30-11:30 a.m.; and Dana-Farber, 3-miles –2 p.m., which will include many patients and their families. 

Anyone interested in supporting the walkers can enter the person's name at the Jimmy Fund website and donate on their behalf. 

Check out a local artist: The Wellesley Free Library was closed last weekend, so if you missed the art of Wellesley resident David Copplestone, and haven't been by yet, now is your chance. The artist has filled the exhibit space outside and inside the Wakelin Room with a small selection of the nearly 400 paintings he's created since 1975. The art will be up the rest of the month.
