Vandalized Window, Identity Theft: Wellesley Police Log

The following is from the Wellesley Police Log. Arrests and charges mentioned don't imply conviction.

March 19

9:49 a.m. - Officer K. Poirier was dispatched to an office building on Walnut Park regarding vandalism to a window in the building. The tenant indicated that on March 10, the window was intact and when she arrived, she noticed the broken window and a small rock on the floor of the office. There are no suspects and there was no other damage to the other office suites.

8:45 p.m. - Officer DeBernardi spoke with a male party at the police station regarding identity fraud. The reporting party stated that an unknown individual had applied social security benefits using his information. He had contacted the social security office and notified them of the fraud. Additionally, a credit card was opened in his name that he had not requested. This card was mailed to his residence. The reporting party had already contacted the credit reporting bureaus to place a freeze on his credit. There are no suspects and no financial loss.

9:59 p.m. - Officer Keenan was on patrol on Worcester Street near Cliff Road when his attention was drawn to a Toyota sedan with a broken tail light. He then observed the vehicle travel into the breakdown lane and correct itself back into the travel lane on two occasions, at which point he stopped the vehicle. He spoke with the male operator, 38-year-old Carl Perry of Framingham, and requested his license and registration. He provided an out of state identification card and Rhode Island Registration. Officer Keenan subsequently queried Perry’s information which showed that Perry had a straight warrant issued by Uxbridge District Court for several motor vehicle-related offenses. Additionally, it revealed that his license status was suspended in Massachusetts. Perry was taken into custody, transported to the station, booked in the usual manner, afforded all rights and held without bail.

March 21

11:48 a.m. - Officer Kane was dispatched to a residence on Oakridge Road for a report of identity theft. The male reporting party informed Officer Kane that someone had gained access to his email account, credit card, and bank account. On March 16, he received notification from Comcast that his password had been changed. He had not changed it and he reset the password but received another notification approximately 12 hours later that his password had been changed again and was unable to access his emails. On March 18, he received a phone call from Capital One inquiring about a $7,300 online purchase as well as a request to send four new credit cards to an address in Jamaica, New York. The charges had been declined and the reporting party canceled his credit card and the request to send credit cards to the address in New York. The reporting party then contacted his bank to inquire about an suspicious activity and learned that new cards had been requested and were being sent to an address in New York. The reporting party spoke with the fraud department at the bank and was provided with an email address that the request to change his account information had been associated with. Officer DeBernardi is investigating.
