Wellesley Golf Open Draws Big Numbers

The Wellesley Chamber of Commerce held its annual Golf Open at Wellesley Country Club Monday, drawing more golf enthusiasts than in recent years.

"This one by far was the most well attended," of the four years she's witnessed, said Cathy McGrath of the Wellesley Chamber of Commerce. The event drew 124 single golfers at $225 per person, and 31 foursomes at $800 per team. Though she's sure the day will turn out to be profitable, the chamber is still working on the bills for the day, McGrath said. So, they've yet to figure how profitable it was. Whatever that figure is, the Wellesley Education Foundation will receive a portion of it.

McGrath attributes this year's success in part to the venue - this is the first time they've hosted the Golf Open at Wellesley Country Club. Golfers know about the course, "So its exciting to have a chance to play on that course," she said. Also, since many of the people playing in the Open are from Wellesley, the Wellesley Country Club makes getting to the area from work a and home an easy task.
