Wellesley High's Jesse Davis Named Patriots Coach of the Week

WELLESLEY, MA – As the Raiders continue to steamroll opponents – shutting out teams in three of their last four games – the man behind the clipboard has been applauded for spearheading their success.

Wellesley High Coach Jesse Davis was named this week's New England Patriots High School Coach of the Week after leading the Raiders to a 27-0 victory over Norwood on Saturday. The win improves Wellesley's record to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

This is Davis' fifth season as head coach of Wellesley football; in five short years, he has produced a defense that currently averages a staggering 3.3 points allowed per game and an offense averaging 27 in each contest.

Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett, who now serves as the team's executive director of community affairs, visited the Wellesley players and coaching staff Tuesday to present the football program with a $1,000 charitable donation in honor of Davis.

This is the 21st year that the Patriots and National Football League have honored local schools and coaches through the Coach of the Week program.

"We are pleased to recognize the impressive recent accomplishments of Coach Jesse Davis and the Raiders football team," Tippett said. "Coach Davis has Wellesley off to a dominating start this season and we wish the team the best as they look to keep their unbeaten streak alive."

At the end of the season, one weekly winner will be crowned the New England Patriots High School Coach of the Year and receive a $2,000 contribution toward the school's football program.
