Wellesley native to run NYC Marathon to fight cancer

“I’ll be running the marathon this year to continue honoring my grandfather Papa... In 2018 ‘Pups’ was diagnosed with stage 3A non-small cell lung cancer. While he will continue to be closely monitored for the next few years, Pups will celebrate three years of being cancer-free this winter… Pups is unique in that not only is he my grandfather, he is truly one of my best friends. Ever since I got into running in college, he has been one of my biggest supporters, often driving by me in his bright red car, flashing his high beams, and giving me a little wave. Every single day I acknowledge how fortunate my family and I are to be able to spend this extra time with Pups and remember that donations made to the American Cancer Society and the resulting research helped make it possible. I am honored to keep paying it forward to other ‘Papa and Sophies’… Remember in the words of Pups, ‘You can always run one more mile’." – Sophie Scott, who is originally from Wellesley, MA, and Kennebunk, ME, where her family still live, and who now lives in New York City.
