Wellesley Parents Of Performing Students (POPS) Says Eat More Pie.

On Thursday, November 9, Wellesley High School (WHS) Drama Society kicks off its opening night of Sweeney Todd, this year’s show-stopping WHS musical. Wellesley POPS has tied-in a clever fundraising campaign to the theme of the show -- Selling savory and sweet pies at the Sweeney Todd concessions booth, this year dubbed Wellesley POPS Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop, at each performance as well as pre-selling these delicious baked goods online.

Wellesley POPS invites all supporters of the performing arts to join the POPS Pie Challenge, which simply stated is to “buy and eat more pie” sold by Wellesley POPS in its online store this week and at Wellesley High School cafeteria during the following times:

• Thursday, November 9, 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, November 10, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
• Saturday, November 11, 11 a.m. to 10: p.m. (longer hours due to participation in the Wellesley Marketplace)

It’s a challenge in Sweeney Todd fashion to enjoy sweet and savory pies from the Wellesley POPS Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop, while supporting performing arts, at all school levels, at the Wellesley Public Schools.

With the generous support from two pie sponsors, The Wellesley POPS Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop will be nicely stocked with nearly 2,000 pies to sell.

Landry’s Meat Pies of Attleboro has donated an impressive number of savory “Old World Classic” French Canadian meat pies in two sizes, 4.5 inch and family size. As well, Table Talks Pies of Worcester has supplied cases of its popular dessert pies in a variety of flavors also in two sizes, 4-inch and 8-inch. Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop is a critical setting in the story of Sweeney Todd. So the connection of pies to the musical is a natural fit.

Carol Morrow and Wendy Paul, charged with chairing Wellesley POPS concessions for the Sweeney Todd show run, “really wanted to do something unique, fun, and profitable for foods sales this year.” From that idea, The Wellesley POPS Mrs. Lovett’s Pie Shop and the POPS Pie Challenge were born.
