Wellesley PD Join Pink Patch Project For Breast Cancer Awareness

In October, pink is the new blue.

WELLESLEY, MA — October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Wellesley police are joining hundreds of first responders across the country and switching their usual police patches in for pink ones. Officers will be wearing the patches as well as selling them — it's all part of the Pink Patch Project.

The Pink Patch Project is a nationwide awareness campaign where police departments sell pink patches during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Wellesley police department will be selling a limited edition Pink Patch which showcases the Town of Wellesley seal in pink.

Donations from the project will be made to The Julie Fund for Women’s Cancer. The Julie Fund was started in 2004 when Julie McAvinn, a Wellesley resident, died from ovarian cancer. Julie was 40 and the mother of three children when she died. The fund is used for women’s cancer research, patient and family support, and educational programs in order to raise awareness of the symptoms and treatments for all types of women’s cancer.
