Wellesley Police Department Releases Smartphone App

WPD, which is rather active with social media and alerts, just added another way to stay connected.

Though very active on Twitter, the GovDelivery alert system and Facebook, the police just made it even easier to access the local department virtually.

Chief Terrence Cunningham and Deputy Chief William Brooks have partnered with Peabody-based app company WiredBlue to develop “MyPD,” a Smartphone application that will allow users to connect directly to the police department, according to a Wellesley Police press release.

The free app, which will run on both the iPhone or Android, will enable users to check the latest Wellesley Police news, access the department's Twitter and Facebook pages, and submit crime tips, feedback, questions and traffic concerns, according to the release.

“The release of the MyPD app is part of the continuing effort by Chief Cunningham to keep the public informed and updated through all means that are available to the department,” the release said.

The Wellesley Police Department is one of the “beta” test departments to develop and test the app, according to the release.
