Wellesley Public Schools Welcomes First Diversity Director

This is the districts first-ever diversity director.

WELLESLEY, MA — Wellesley Public Schools has it's first ever Diversity Director. Charmie Curry stepped into the new position seven weeks ago and will lead the district in efforts of inclusion and offering an equitable education.

Curry came from the Boston Public Schools and worked with performance management in the district for two years. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Endicott College and received her masters in teaching from Northeastern University.

While well versed in education with a background in educational leadership, management and teaching, Curry is a career changer and previously worked as a journalist. After graduating from Temple University with a degree in journalism, Curry worked with the Boston Globe.

The new position comes after a district-wide racial climate report showed several challenges facing the district in terms of equity, including a lack of diversity in staff and a difference in each schools focus on diversity and cultural proficiency.

The report also showed opportunities the district could improve and grow including implementing a position dedicated to diversity.
