Wellesley’s Convergence Capital Cooks Dinner for Families of Children With Cancer
Company Team Hosts Volunteer House Dinner at The Boston House

WELLESLEY, Mass. - A team of 12 employees from Wellesley-based financial planning firm Convergence Capital cooked and served dinner on Nov. 4 for families staying at The Boston House. The Brookline nonprofit provides free homelike lodging to families whose children are being treated for cancer and other life-threatening hematological diseases at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital.
The meal was the firm’s second House Dinner at The Boston House, following its first in fall 2025. The team prepared tacos, a build-your-own sundae and cookie bar, and hot cocoa with toppings for 15 families. Three employees who joined Convergence Capital this year took part for the first time: Executive Assistant Anna Nielsen and Service Advisors Davis Cardew and Kajol Awasthi.
“Something as simple as preparing and sharing a meal can bring a little comfort and normalcy to families during an incredibly challenging time,” says Lisa Mesicek, Convergence Capital’s Chief Operating Officer. “We continue to show up because we genuinely care, and because being part of a community means being there for one another when it matters most.”

House Dinners are a core part of how The Boston House supports families during treatment. In 2025, volunteer groups made and served 58 House Dinners as The Boston House welcomed 151 families for a total of 5,848 nights. Those families came from 19 states and territories, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Iceland and the United Kingdom. Last year The Boston House also kept a wait list for the first time in its history, as more families traveled from farther away for complex care.
“Many of our families are far from home for weeks or months while their child is in treatment,” says Dawn Emerman, The Boston House Co-Executive Director. “A House Dinner means parents can come back from a long day at the hospital and sit down to a meal they didn’t have to plan or cook. When a team like Convergence Capital comes back for a second year, families feel that their neighbors haven’t forgotten them.”

By removing the cost of lodging, The Boston House saved each family an average of about $4,200 in 2025, based on an average 14-night stay and a $300 nightly Boston hotel rate. Each room costs The Boston House $136 per night to operate. The House relies on corporate and community partners to provide meals, care packages and renovation support.
