Wellesley Schools Recognized In DC For Sustainability Efforts
The district was recognized for its work to conserve and reduce energy use in buildings, among other initiatives.

WELLESLEY, MA — Wellesley Public Schools' sustainability efforts were recognized all the way in Washington D.C. The U.S. Department of Education held a ceremony to honor schools doing their part to help the environment and promote environmentally-friendly practices and facilities. Wellesley was one of the schools named a "Green Ribbon School."
Superintendent Dr. David Lussier and School Committee chair Melissa Martin were on hand to receive a sustainably crafted plaque honoring the district's achievements. The Green Ribbon Schools Award is given to schools that implement innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education.
WPS was specifically recognized for its work to conserve and reduce energy use in buildings, to promote and support energy saving behavior at all schools, and to develop curricula focused on increasing environmental awareness.
