Wellesley Voters Go for Grossman, Baker

Dylan Hayre gets Wellesley democrats' choice for state senator.

Democrats far exceeded the voter turnout in Wellesley for Tuesday’s state primary election, with 2,871 hitting the polls to 849 republicans.

With 3,720 total turning out, and 16,078 registered, it accounted for 23 percent of the Wellesley voters.

Democrat Edward J. Markey, running for U.S. Senator, received 2,166 votes, with 32 write-ins.

The governor’s democrat race brought in 828 for Donald M. Berwick, 958 for Martha Coakley and 1,046 for Steven Grossman.

Democrat Leland Cheung got 934 votes for lieutenant governor, to 813 for Stephen Kerrigan and 381 for Michael Lake. Martha Healy was the clear democratic winner for attorney general with 1,839 Wellesley votes, with Warren Tolman receiving 891. There were two write-ins.

Nine people wrote in for secretary of state to the unopposed democratic candidate William Francis Galvin, who received 2,126.

For treasurer, Deborah Goldberg got the most at 1,121 with Thomas Conroy behind with 832, and 458 for Bary Finegold.

Suzanne Bump received 1,849 for auditor. There were 13 write-ins for the category.

Democratic U.S. representative candidate Joseph Kennedy III received 2,303. He was unopposed. There were 14 write-ins.

Councilor for the third district brought in one write in, with Charles Shapiro getting Wellesley’s democratic vote at 746, followed with a close 613 for Marilyn Pettito Devany.

Cynthia Stone Creem received 1,356 for democratic state senator. She was unopposed and there were four write ins.

Second district councillor Robert Jubinville received 350 votes to Bart Andrew Timilty, who got 251. There were two write-ins in this category.

Dylan Hayre ran away with the Norkfolk Bristol and Middlesex district state senator votes at 484. Opponent Sara Lynn Reynolds received 224 from the democrats. There was one write-in.

Unopposed for state representative, democrat Alice Hanlon Peisch got 2,318 votes. There were 12 write-ins.

Democrat Michael Morrissey received 1,815 votes from Wellesley democrats. There were six write-ins.

Patrick W. McDermott received 1,735 votes for register of probate. There were five write-ins.

County treasurer candidate Joseph Connolly received 1,745 votes. There were six write-ins.

In another unopposed democratic category, Peter Collins got 1,714 for county commissioner, and there were five write-ins.

Republican party U.S. senator candidate Brian Herr got 627 votes with zero write-ins.

Charles Baker was the clear choice for republicans for governor, with 727 votes to Mark R. Fisher’s 115. There was one write-in.

Karyn Polito ran unopposed for lieutenant governor. The republican got 687. There was one write-in.

John Miller received 629 for attorney general, and there was one write-in.

With one write in, republicans voted 607 times for David D’Arcangelo in Wellesley.

For republican treasurer, unopposed candidate Michael James Heffernan got 687 votes.

Patricia Saint Auburn received 606 for auditor.

For republican candidate for Norfolk Bristol and Middlesex district, unopposed candidate Richard Ross got 177 votes. There were zero write-ins.

There were 40 write-in votes for republican district attorney.

Michael Soter received 528 from republicans for county commissioner. There was one write-in.
