Wellesley Wants You To "Adopt A Fire Hydrant" This Winter
There are more than 1,400 fire hydrants in Wellesley. The town is looking for volunteers to commit to clearing them during blizzards.

WELLESLEY, MA — The time for blizzards is almost here. Soon people will have to shovel their driveways, and the town hopes you are willing to shovel a little more by "adopting" a fire hydrant.
According to a town press release, there are more than 1,400 fire hydrants in Wellesley. Town officials are hoping residents can volunteer to help clear some of these out in the event of an emergency.
To adopt a fire hydrant, follow these steps:

- Visit this map.
- Pan and zoom to your neighborhood or search for an address by expanding the Find tab on the left. In the address field, start typing your street name and select your street when it appears in the dropdown list. Repeat this for the address number. The map will zoom to your neighborhood.
- Click on the "Adopt a hydrant" button on the right and then click any red hydrant to adopt it. Green hydrants have already been adopted.
- Enter your information in the pop-up form and click "Update."
