Westborough Police Warn Residents After Spike In Overnight Car Break-Ins

Officers have received numerous reports over the past several days involving vehicles being entered during overnight hours.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough Police are warning residents to lock their vehicles and remove valuables after a recent increase in overnight car break-ins in town and neighboring communities.

According to police, officers have received numerous reports over the past several days involving vehicles being entered during overnight hours. In some cases, cars left with keys inside were stolen.

Police are reminding residents to take several simple precautions to help prevent thefts, including always locking vehicle doors, not leaving valuables inside the car, never leaving keys inside the vehicle, even temporarily.

Officials said taking these steps can significantly reduce the chances of becoming a victim. “We appreciate everyone’s attention to this matter,” police said.

Westborough police did not release the locations of the break-ins.

This comes just a few months after police in a neighboring community also cited a rise in motor vehicle break-ins. In January, the Shrewsbury Police Department said there had been an increase in vehicle theft. Police said that in most incidents, vehicles were left unlocked.

At the time, Shrewsbury police said break-ins can happen during the daytime, and many thefts happen when offenders check for unlocked doors.
