Westborough Officers Take Part In Intensive Tactical Training Exercise

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough police officers and members of surrounding departments recently completed an intensive two-week close-quarters battle (CQB) training program, giving officers hands-on experience in realistic, high-pressure scenarios designed to prepare them for critical incidents.

The training was organized by Community First Project, a nonprofit organization that provides advanced law enforcement training at no cost to departments through donor support.

“Over the last two weeks, our officers have worked through realistic scenarios that challenge them to think, communicate, and make decisions under pressure,” the Westborough Police Department shared in a social media post following the training. “The experience and lessons learned from this training will stay with them long after it ends.”

The second week of training brought in a new group of officers from Westborough and neighboring agencies to participate in live CQB exercises focused on tactical awareness, decision-making, and communication in unpredictable, dangerous situations, according to Community First.

“This isn't just training,” Community First Project said in its post. “It's about giving officers the decision-making skills, tactical awareness, and confidence they need when seconds matter and lives are on the line.”

CQB training typically places officers in simulated high-risk situations inside buildings or confined spaces where they must quickly assess threats, coordinate with teammates, and make split-second decisions under stress.

Westborough Police officials said opportunities like this are rare for many departments nationwide and emphasized the value of hosting the training locally.

“This type of hands on CQB training is something not many departments in the country get the chance to experience, and we know how valuable it is for our officers and the surrounding agencies training alongside us,” the department said.

Both organizations also highlighted the role donors played in making the training accessible. Community First Project noted that financial support allows the nonprofit to provide advanced preparation “at no cost” to departments, while Westborough Police thanked “the instructors, organizers, and donors who made this possible.”

“When officers are prepared, communities are safer,” the Community First Project wrote. “That's the impact we're proud to create together.”

Westborough Police added that the department remains committed to investing in officer development and continuing to provide advanced training opportunities for its members.
