WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough police officers will be cracking down on seat belts this month.

During the month of May, officers from the Westborough Police Department will have an increased presence on local roadways, focusing on seat belt use by motorists and passengers, police announced Friday. These additional patrols are funded through the Municipal Road Safety Grant Program.

Last year, Westborough police were awarded $31,490.24 from the Municipal Road Safety Program, according to local officials.

The program helps local police departments improve traffic safety and prevent road accidents and injuries, according to the state.

Westborough police said that May is also recognized as the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign, reminding drivers and passengers of the importance of buckling up every trip.

This comes just one day after Westborough police announced it would conduct focused traffic enforcement throughout May in and around the rotary in the center of town.

Police said the initiative is aimed at improving safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists who use the busy rotary area daily.
