WESTBOROUGH, MA — The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project is scheduled to be in Westborough on eight dates in June as it responds to residents' concerns about mosquitoes in specific parts of town.
The project is set to operate in Westborough on Jun. 3, Jun. 4, Jun. 10, Jun. 11, Jun. 17, Jun. 18, Jun. 24 and Jun. 25. However, those dates are tentative and could change because of weather conditions, mosquito populations, mosquito virus activity or special event spraying.
Residents who request service may prompt mosquito spraying in specific parts of town, with crews using truck-mounted equipment in some areas, according to the town notice.
A more detailed daily spray notice is posted after 3:30 p.m. on the Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project phone system and on its website, according to the agency.
The mosquito control project said residents in affected areas should close street-facing windows, turn off outside air settings on air conditioners, keep pets indoors and remain inside during spraying and for up to 20 minutes afterward. Residents with home gardens should also wash fruits and vegetables before eating them.
The program shuts down when cool nighttime temperatures become predominant in the area, according to the town notice. The Central Massachusetts Mosquito Control Project said its adulticide program generally begins in late May or early June and ends in August or September as mosquito populations decline and lower evening temperatures make spraying inadvisable.
