WESTBOROUGH, MA — A longtime Westborough firefighter is retiring after more than three decades of service to the town.
Senior firefighter Matthew Stockwell retired Tuesday after serving Westborough for 36 years, the Westborough Fire Department wrote in an announcement.
Stockwell worked as a firefighter and EMT, helped manage the department's information technology and continues to serve in the Massachusetts Air National Guard.
His military service stretches back decades. A 2008 publication from the 102nd Intelligence Wing profiled Stockwell as a master sergeant with 20 years of service and identified him as a safety technician and full-time firefighter.
In addition to his military accolades, Stockwell was presented an award from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services. He was listed among recipients of a 35-year career service award from the Westborough Fire Department in the state's 2025 Massachusetts Firefighter Service Awards roster.
"Yesterday we wished our senior firefighter, Matthew Stockwell, good luck in his retirement," the Westborough Fire Department wrote in its announcement. "Matt, we wish you and your family the best in your retirement."
